Our Mission
The mission of the Children's Jewish Education Group is to foster a sense of Jewish identity by introducing children to Jewish culture, tradition, history, and values. We strive to impart an understanding of Jewish contributions to history and civilization through exploration of many aspects of Judaism. The emphasis is placed on the richness of Jewish culture and identification with our cultural heritage.
The Children's Jewish Education Group is a co-operative developed and run by parents. For children, there is an emerging sense of Jewish identity and an experience of being among Jewish friends. For parents, there is a celebration of our shared heritage and the satisfaction of imparting this to our children. The co-operation structure enables parents to participate in their children's Jewish education with others committed to the same goal.
Parent efforts founded the Group, nurtured its growth, and continue as the cornerstone of all activities. Also within our by-laws are the "Policies of the School" and they are as follows:
- The school shall teach a wide range of Jewish culture, history, traditions and values, thereby developing a respect for Judaism with the aim of encouraging a desire to further explore the vast riches of the Jewish heritage. In facilitating the policies, goals and objectives of the school, the school shall foster a respect for the tolerance of other religions and cultures, thereby instilling a respect for its own diverse membership.
- The school shall respect the right of every family to determine for themselves and their children the extent to which they shall practice any aspect of Judaism.
- The school may engage in a varied and diverse array of charitable activities, the nature and extent of which shall be determined by its membership.
- The school shall function as a co-operative organization which requires as a condition of membership the participation of its family members.
